Our PM and Canada's 150th

On the weekend of Canada’s 150th birthday our Prime Minister can be found on the cover of SKY Magazine, Delta Airline’s in-flight publication. A foreign airline that over the past week has launched a campaign to consumers to book directly at delta.com with no mention of Travel Agents. On the day, week, month and year Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday, the PM is highly profiled and endorsing a non Canadian carrier and overlooking the success and importance of the travel industry in our country, and our very own Canadian Airlines.

Mr. Trudeau failed to recognize that Canadian airlines like Air Canada, Westjet, Porter, Transat and others in this country compete every day against foreign carriers. Foreign carriers who have the advantage of operating with less tax burden and ground rent. From ACTA’s perspective, we think the PM may have missed an opportunity on Canada Day. During a time when we are celebrating our country’s accomplishments and history we should also be celebrating the accomplishments of Canadian corporations that play a vital role in successful Canadian Travel Industry.

Travel is an important economic driver in Canada and competition for airlines, tour operators, hotels and travel agencies is fierce! ACTA will take the opportunity while the spotlight is on Canada and our successes to send a letter to the PMO office, advocating and addressing our concerns while reinforcing the comments and suggestions we made during our submission to the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA).

Congratulations Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, Air Transat, who were recognized at this year’s Skytrax World Airline Awards at the International Paris Air Show. The awards, described as "the Oscars of the aviation industry," are most coveted Quality accolades for the world airline industry, and a global benchmark of airline excellence. Go Canada Go!
