FRAUD ADVISORY

This advisory is to update ACTA members of a higher than normal increase in fraudulent bookings being made throughout Canada under the disguise of a Travel Agent. Fraudsters are showing no favouritism towards any one supplier or reservation system. Recently, it has been brought to ACTA's attention that the successful fraudsters are finding ways to mine into agency reservation systems gaining access to Travel Agency accounts which are being used to purchase airline tickets under existing profile/username.

We are asking that you all take all the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim. We are recommending that you:

  • Make it a regular practice to change all your usernames and passwords every 60 days
  • When accepting credit cards always confirm the source.
  • You should not reply or click on email messages asking for personal or financial information unless you are familiar and/or are expecting something from the source.
  • If an employee is no longer with your organization, be sure to change or delete all usernames and passwords associated with that employee

Managing revenue lost to fraud can be costly in an agency environment where resources are increasingly scarce. Do your best to stay protected.
