ACTA Alberta Loses an Industry Leader

ACTA was recently made aware of the passing of an industry leader, Helen Werbisky. Jona Way, former ACTA Alberta Executive Director, provided a touching description of Helen:

“Travel industry friends....it is with deep sadness that I share with you that Helen Werbisky passed away in late January. True industry vets will remember Helen as one of the managers at Woodward’s Travel. For many of us we met Helen during her time as Executive Director for ACTA Alberta. Personally, I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor and friend when I took over at ACTA when Helen decided to retire! She even came back to work in my basement office when I went on maternity leave in 1990. If she could have she would have babysat my newborn and let me do the work. Helen had a quick smile, a twinkle in her idea and a hearty laugh. She enjoyed a good joke or story as much as the rest of us. I was fortunate to spend an afternoon with her in the fall. We talked for hours and caught up on all things in the industry. At 93 years of age she was still ‘sharp as a tack’. There were many laughs and much reminiscing that day. I will truly miss her.”

Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at St. Michael Catholic Community (800 – 85th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
