A case for consumer protection in Saskatchewan

Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) issued an advisory to consumer media on Jan 22 when we were made aware of a recent closure of a NON ACTA member Travel Agency in the province of Saskatchewan.

ACTA was advising consumers in Saskatchewan and surrounding area that there had been suspicious activity surrounding a Travel Agency closure putting consumer protection is at risk. Consumers who booked a vacation with T& T Travel, 507 Main St., Kindersley, Saskatchewan, CA, S0L 1S0, Telephone:  (306) 463-6503, Fax:  (306) 463-3383 were advised they could be victims of fraudulent activity.

Consumers were warned that if they booked a trip with T & T travel and have not received travel confirmation and documents to please call your tour operator to confirm whether your trip purchase has been processed. We also suggested that consumers review their credit card statement around the time of your purchase for any suspicious credit card activity. In some instances it has been reported that this Travel Agency was processing travel files with credit cards that were not their own.

If consumers suspected they were a victim of credit card fraud we advised them to contact Consumer Protection, Department of Justice, 1-877-880-5550 and the RCMP Anti Fraud Center http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/about-ausujet/index-eng.htm and file a report.

To avoid these issues in future we suggested that when planning and purchasing travel, you work with an ACTA member Travel Agency. ACTA members in your area can be found by using our directory http://www.acta.ca/travel-directory.
