ACTA disappointed no comprehensive review update announced at TICO AGM

ACTA is very disappointed by the lack of progress announced at yesterday’s TICO annual general meeting regarding Recommendation 16 from the Auditor General's report last year. 

ACTA had anticipated an update on the comprehensive review of the Travel Industry Act, its regulations, and TICO's mandate and structure as recommended by the Auditor General, however, the Ontario government failed to address this critical issue at the TICO agm. 

ACTA is concerned that nearly a year has passed since the publication of the Auditor General's report. Following an initial meeting with Ministry staff in December 2023, ACTA has received no further updates despite repeated inquiries. 

ACTA urges the Ontario government to prioritize this review and provide a clear timeline for its implementation. The association believes that aligning the regulatory framework with the evolving needs of both the industry and consumers is paramount.

We are calling on the Ontario government to engage in open dialogue and take prompt action to address this pressing issue. The continued growth and success of Ontario's travel industry depends on modernizing our regulatory framework. 

The association emphasizes that this review is vital for Ontario travel agencies and independent travel advisors. It would foster a more productive and innovative economy while supporting jobs throughout the province.
