Mexico tourism taxes: What your clients need to know

If you’re booking clients to Cancún, the Riviera Maya, or Los Cabos, there are local tourism taxes they may need to pay before departure.

Here’s a quick overview to help you keep your clients informed and prepared.

Which tax applies?

Both are mandatory for eligible international travellers and are generally not included in airfare, hotel charges, or travel packages. Payment should be completed online through the appropriate portal before departure.

What does this mean for your agency?

For applicable bookings, make sure clients are informed about the tourism tax at the time of booking and receive the appropriate payment information before they travel.

Keeping a written record of the disclosure can also help your agency maintain clear documentation for each booking.
