Following the severe flash flooding and landslides that occurred along the Nepal-China border on August 26 (local time), Global Affairs Canada is seeking assistance in identifying Canadian travellers who may be affected and could require consular support.

Given your operations in the region, please advise whether your organization is aware of any Canadian travellers currently in or near the affected areas. If so, Global Affairs Canada would appreciate any information that can be provided regarding:

  • The number of Canadians your agency has sent to the area
  • Whether your agency is currently in contact with them
  • Whether the names and passport numbers of the Canadian travellers can be shared
  • Whether your agency is coordinating with local operators or service providers
  • If you require local assistance, contact local disaster response hotlines by dialing 1234 or 1144.

Global Affairs Canada's missions abroad can assist with ground-level follow-up, as required.

Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance can contact Global Affairs Canada's Emergency Watch and Response Centre 24/7:

  • Telephone: +1 613-996-8885
  • Text message: +1 613-686-3658
  • WhatsApp: +1 613-909-8881
  • Signal: +1 613-909-8087
