Global Affairs Canada is reminds you about the New European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS)

Global Affairs Canada is reminding the travel industry that the European Union plans to implement the new European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) in the last quarter of 2026 (between September 2026 and January 2027). While the exact launch date has not yet been confirmed, Canadian travellers and travel professionals are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new entry requirements well in advance, as ETIAS will apply to travel to 30 European destinations.

To support trip planning, Global Affairs Canada has updated the Travel Advice and Advisories for participating countries to include ETIAS information under the Entry and Exit Requirements section. Additional resources, including an updated Travelling to Europe webpage and a list of frequently asked questions, are also available to help travellers prepare.

Global Affairs Canada also reminds Canadians who hold citizenship in one of the participating European countries that they must travel to Europe using their valid European passport. Those who do not have a current European passport, or are unsure of their citizenship status, should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate in Canada and ensure they have the correct travel documents before ETIAS comes into effect.

As ETIAS is not yet in effect, travellers are encouraged to be cautious of fraudulent websites claiming to issue ETIAS authorizations.
