Global Affairs Canada informs that Canada has updated its Travel Advice and Advisories for Cuba to a risk level of “Avoid non-essential travel” (L3) due to worsening shortages of fuel, electricity, and basic necessities including food, water, and medicine, which can also affect resorts. Fuel availability has decreased, is difficult to predict, and may disrupt ground transportation.

As a result, all Canadian airlines have suspended service to Cuba for upcoming trips. Canadian airlines are facilitating the return of their clients currently in Cuba and are reaching out directly to them.

Global Affairs Canada's latest advice reminds Canadians to:

  • Confirm their return flight details and avoid extending their stay in Cuba
  • Seek a commercial option to leave the country  if they do not have a return ticket. Commercial flights remain available through international airlines; however, they may become limited on short notice.
  • Sign up for the Registration of Canadians Abroad service to receive important updates
  • Make sure their travel documents are up to date and secure at all times

We would appreciate your support in sharing this updated travel information with your Canadian clients. Helping ensure they are aware of the risks and stay informed through our Travel Advice and Advisories is key to their safety and preparedness.

We appreciate your assistance and commitment to keeping Canadians safe. As the situation evolves, the Global Affairs Team wishes to stay in close contact. Please do not hesitate to contact the Global Affairs Team, should you require additional information or have more information to share with them at [email protected].
