Canada and China have announced visa-free access for Canadians travelling to China, removing a long-standing barrier and marking an important shift for outbound travel. With Asia fully reopened post-pandemic and Canadians increasingly travelling farther and staying longer, China is once again firmly in play. This development creates timely opportunities for travel advisors to design high-value, experience-driven itineraries with strong client appeal and return on effort.

The announcement follows Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Beijing, the first by a Canadian Prime Minister since 2017, and signals renewed momentum in the Canada–China relationship. Alongside major discussions on trade, energy, and investment, both governments emphasized expanding cultural exchanges and two-way travel. The Prime Minister welcomed China’s commitment to visa-free access, reinforcing tourism as a key component of broader economic and people-to-people engagement.

For ACTA members, this shift opens the door to immersive, longer-stay programs across China, including cultural, culinary, educational, and premium travel experiences. It also presents opportunities for ACTA to explore future partnerships and potential educational experiences abroad. As bilateral relations strengthen and travel barriers fall, Canadian travel advisors are well positioned to lead clients back to one of the world’s most dynamic destinations.
