TICO Implements New Education Program and Exam Fee

The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has launched its modernized education program, which includes updated e-learning content and a revised examination structure. As part of this rollout, the certification exam fee has increased from $35-$50 to $150.

During TICO's consultation process in 2025, ACTA formally submitted concerns on behalf of members regarding the magnitude of the fee increase. Our submission acknowledged the value of modernizing educational delivery while strongly objecting to the 200% fee increase, which we argued exceeded inflation-adjusted rates and lacked sufficient justification. We also raised concerns about the potential impact on small and medium-sized agencies operating within tight margins, as well as barriers to entry for new travel advisors.

Despite industry feedback, TICO has proceeded with the new fee structure. ACTA will continue to represent members' interests through ongoing engagement with TICO and the Government of Ontario.
