Telephone Campaign - Suggested Phone Call Script

ACTA is asking members and Travel Agents to call their local MP!  Here is a suggested phone call script. Please take time to make the call and send your letters urgently.  Also please try to ask for a MEETING with your MP.  We will need to continue to lobby for support for our industry. Call today!

  • “I'm calling as a constituent to ask you to extend all aid programs to June 2021.  Across Canada, there are 14,000 travel agency businesses and 24,000 travel agents and independent contractors, who provide a valuable service to Canadians, many are women entrepreneurs.
  • “Due to government travel advisories, border closures and lockdowns, travel agents are not getting any bookings and it is estimated this will continue well into 2021.
  • “Some travel agencies have already closed their doors and travel agents and independent contractors have left the industry either temporarily or permanently. Many travel agents will have no source of income for many months to come until restrictions are lifted and people feel safe to travel again.
  • “We need the government to do the following:
    • An increase to CEWS to the 85% level which was the rate for July and August
    • Amendments to CERS to 90%, as there is no business for travel agencies due to government- imposed travel restrictions
    • An extension to CRB to June 30, 2021
    • Travel agents should be included in any airline aid package
    • A travel industry subsidy to assist with fixed expenses, and amendments to the BCAP so Travel Agencies would be eligible.
  • “The recent announcement by the Minister of Transport that the government is working on an airline aid package contingent on passenger refunds, has put travel agencies in an impossible situation. Travel agencies, travel agents and independent contractors are now being asked to pay back their commissions.  This money has been spent long ago on rent, wages, groceries and mortgages!"
  • "This commission recall will bankrupt most agencies.  We need the government to ensure travel agent commissions are NOT recalled due to the requirement to refund passengers.  The aid should take this into consideration."
  • "We also need a plan for the government to work with industry to develop clear criteria for re-opening borders and future travel advisories when it is safe to do so, including a travel incentive program. Right now there is total uncertainty and this makes it impossible for consumers and the industry to plan."
  • "Please help travel agents and travel agencies. We will be one of the last industries to recover from this crisis… but we are worth investing in! Consumers will need us when traveling is safe again."
