Fraud Committee Fraud Tip: Valid Phone Number

The following fraud tip is brought you you by the ACTA Fraud Prevention Committee. As part of our duty are sharing tips on how to prevent fraud in your bi weekly member newsletter. Your fraud tip can be found below:

TIP: Always verify phone numbers provided. If you usually accept inbound calls from a new customer, make sure to verify that the phone number provided works or that they pick up the phone when you call (not just able to leave a message). You want to know that they do pick up the phone.

ABOUT THE ACTA FRAUD PREVENTION COMMITTEE
The ACTA Fraud Prevention Committee (AFPC) was established by ACTA to assist and educate agents and the travel industry in identifying fraud trends to prevent losses. The AFPC’s primary duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Provide an avenue of communication among Agents and ACTA Fraud Prevention Committee
  • Explore existing and emerging fraud trends and identify fraud prevention best practices
  • Identify education areas that may assist agents in identifying and preventing fraud losses, as well as to work to effect changes.

HELP US PREVENT FRAUD:
ACTA has introduced a Fraud Incident Report to be posted on acta.ca for ACTA members only. The report is an opportunity for members to share information on fraud incidents that they have encountered that may have effected their business and/or cost them money. The sharing of information in a restricted area on the ACTA website.
