Algonquin College Hospitality and Tourism Meet and Greet

On Tuesday March 24, ACTA participated in a meet and greet session at Algonquin College campus to educate Hospitality and Tourism students on the benefits of working as a travel agent, and the value of professional certification. It was interesting for ACTA to learn that all Algonquin College tourism students are required to work at their campus travel agency where they get to make “mock” bookings for staff and external clients.  Their students also have to go through a mandatory co-op of approx. 2 – 3 weeks.  So, when they graduate, they’re well qualified.

The event itself was in the form of a mini student conference where representatives from the industry were stationed at tables and students would approach, group by group, to learn more and ask questions.  ACTA was seated beside TICO. This helped ACTA and TICO to point out both the differences and the synergies between the organizations.  ACTA, along with TICO, also gave a short speech at the request of the college. The students were pleased to learn about the requirements needed to earn your CTC designation.

ACTA's next opportunity to speak at the colleges will be in the first week of May at the Ontario Association of Travel Colleges. This will be a great platform for ACTA!
