"It has been seven years since I became president and ACTA is more united than ever, said David McCaig, president and COO of the Association, who was in Montreal on Tuesday as part of a meeting with the board of directors of ACTA. "We cannot achieve goals if you do not have the will to work together," he added.

ACTA board members spent the day at the Omni Hotel in Montreal Tuesday as part of the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Association. The ACTA Board of Directors meet in person 3 times a year in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. A luncheon was also held for ACTA members and partners to meet the ACTA Board of Directors.

"The board talked about planning for 2015 and discussed the terms of reference to review, because in Canada, there are new rules for non-profit organizations, The regional chairs also took stock of their local actions and issues, " says Monique Audet, Chair for ACTA Quebec and secretary of the board executive.

STRONGER AND MORE STATUS THAN EVER

During the luncheon McCaig announced how pleased he was to have eliminated the accumulated deficit in 2013 which was left to him when he became president and the role his colleague, Heather Craig-Peddie, played in effort. For her loyalty and service Heather is rising in rank from Director of Operations to ACTA Vice President, a position that was not assigned to anyone before her.

A nice unifying element for ACTA was the integration of the former Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors (CITC), creating the ACTA Education division, which now delivers professional certification for travel consultants. The number of professionals who are certified travel consultant (CTC) and Certified Travel Manager (CTM) since the aquisition spiked to over  2,500 travel agents in Canada, 105 in Quebec where there were only 7 in 2013.

"Part of our mandate is to promote these two certifications, stated Monique Audet. To lead by example, all members should consider certifying themselves. there is great value to agents and agency managers to get their certification because it shows their customers the reliability and professionalism of their services. There is also a pride in this recognition. "
