Update on Alitalia situation

Dear Members,

Following a referendum held yesterday, the personnel of ALITALIA rejected a restructuring plan for the airline which is facing financial difficulties.

Following the outcome of the referendum, the Italian Government has announced that a “bridge Loan” of 400 million EUR will be granted to ALITALIA with the intention to guarantee the continuation of flight operations for the coming 6 months.

After that period, it will be up to a Court to decide on the fate of the airline, including selling the airline to a potential buyer, or any other solution compatible with the EU transport and competition rules.

We are in the process of understanding which measures are required to be in place at BSP level to guarantee the refund of un-flown tickets to Passengers/Agents should the airline cease operations. We will continue to update you as more details become available.
