ALBERTA/NORTHWEST TERRITORIES: ANTHONY TONKINSON

Anthony was born and raised in the UK and completed his education by attending the London Hotel School in Hendon, London.  He immigrated to Canada in 1967 and started his own business in 1979.

Anthony and his wife, Bev, bought a Goliger's Travel franchise in Calgary, opening it in 1985.  His son was born in '86 and while Bev stayed home to manage a busy home with two young daughters, Anthony ran the business.

Michael Broadhurst and Anthony met in London at the Hotel School in 1963 and in 1986, he decided to join Anthony in the running and building of Goliger’s Travel.

Anthony and Michael moved the business away from the franchise and joined three other agencies to become Vision 2000 Travel Group in 2000.  By 2010, they had built the agency to have about eighty employees.

In 2010, they merged the agency with an Ontario corporation to form one company with agencies from Ontario to the BC coast with currently five hundred plus employees.  Anthony was a shareholder and the company's VP of Administration. In June 2016, Anthony sold his share of Vision Travel Solutions. Although Anthony remains an owner until 2019, he is not actively involved in the agency.

Over the years, Anthony has been involved with many boards including President of the Squamish (in B.C.) Chamber of Commerce, Chinook Rotary, and the Skål Club of Calgary.  He sat on the SAIT Travel & Tourism Advisory Committee for over twenty years and has sat on the ACTA Alberta Council for over 6 years, currently holding the position of Council Chair. At this time, Anthony welcomes the opportunity to continue as an active member of the ACTA National Board and bringing to the Board the issues most pressing to the Alberta region.
